It’s been a tumultuous year for young adult items at the library. Manga continues to be popular; so do book series recently made into movies. The Streisand Effect was also evident, as books on the most frequently challenged list for the year were also some of the most frequently checked out. Interestingly, while the Ranger’s Apprentice series as a whole remains popular, no single book in the series made the top 5 list.
Here are the most frequently checked out YA books at SCFPL this year:
- The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (17 checkouts)
- The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia
- Dungeons and Dragons: Monster Manual (12 checkouts each) (*note: we also have the other two core rulebooks for D&D 5e!)
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (9 checkouts)
YA Graphic Novels:
- Maus: A Survivor’s Tale by Art Spiegelman
- Villains are Destined to Die #2 by Suol (10 checkouts each) (or you can start with #1 in the series)
- Spy x Family #3 by Endo Tatsuya (here’s #1 in the series)
- Scott Pilgrim vs the World by Bryan Lee O’Malley (9 checkouts each) (here’s #1 in the series)
